This post shows how to use the "lookup field" in most of Zoho CRM modules such as Leads, Contacts, Accounts. If use wisely, this control can become a very nice feature.
As we all understand that if we use any existing database application, it won't 100% fit your current business module, sometime needs make extra steps to reach your goal, sometime just impossible, same as Zoho CRM.
But I think the Lookup filed is very useful control allows us passing information between modules. For example: In Contact, we need a referral information which including 2 fields:
1. Who referred to you?
2. Referred customers
That means a new contact can be referred by another existing contact, but also later on, that new contact might referral other customers. We need all those contacts recorded
Here is what to do:
Once above Lookup field is created, the "Related List: Referred Customer" field will be automatically shown in each Contact's detail list.
After done that, if, for example, John is referred by Bob, in John's "Referred By" field will have Bob's name, and in Bob's contact form, John will be listed in Bob's details section=> Referred Customers, if Bob referred another 10 contacts, will be also listed in his details section.
This Lookup field can also look-up to different modules.
The relationship of those two fields are based on many-to-one table relationships.
